With the release of version 4.2, Checkout has been completely redesigned to provide our clients with the most flexible and customizable Checkout process yet. The new version of Checkout has two processes to let a customer Checkout, either a 4-Step Checkout Process or a 2-Step Checkout Process. This document will walk through all steps of Checkout and explain the workflow of the Checkout Process.
*Optional step based on setting Checkout >> Checkout Settings >> Allow Registered Users.
The 4-Step Checkout Process is set by default on all MonsterCommerce Storefronts. In Checkout >> Checkout Settings the setting titled Two Step or Four Step Checkout is set to Four. |
|
The first step of checkout, the Login page allows existing customers to log in to their account and proceed through Checkout with their Shipping and Billing Addresses already filled in. The Login page also provides the option to Checkout as a New Customer, or as an International Customer if the storefront offers international shipping. The customer can proceed to the second step of Checkout by either clicking on the New Customer Button, the International Customer Button or by logging in to their existing account. |
If the setting Allow Registered User is set to No, customers will automatically be directed to the second step of Checkout without seeing the Login page. |
The second step of Checkout, also known as the Address step, allows customers to enter in their Shipping Address, and all customer contact information. The Address Step also allows customers to fill out account information to become a Registered User (username and password). When a customer presses the Next button after filling in all required information they will be asked to fill in their billing address. Once the customer fills in their billing address they can proceed to step three of checkout. |
If Checkout >> Shipping >> Shipping Manager >> Allow Billing & Shipping Address to be Different is set to Yes, the customer will be presented with the option to set their Billing Address to be the Same as Shipping Address. If this setting is set to No then the customers will not see the Billing Address Step. |
The third step of Checkout, the Order Options step, provides Customers with the ability to select shipping options, fill in discount codes, gift certificates, and special instructions. The third step also displays any Checkout Questions configured on the site. Once all required information is filled in the customer can proceed to the fourth step of Checkout. |
|
The fourth step of Checkout, the Review and Payment step, lets Customers review all order details, such as addresses, items in their cart, the subtotal, taxes, shipping and handling, and final total. The Review and Payment step of Checkout is also the step where the Customer will fill in all payment information (credit card info, account number, etc.). Once the customer clicks the Place Your Order Button, their order information will be processed, stored, and the Customer is redirected to the Confirmation page of Checkout. |
|
The Confirmation page of Checkout displays all of the order information and displays options to print out an invoice or continue shopping. The Confirmation page also displays any Order Confirmation Messages that are set up with the storefront Payment Methods. The Confirmation page marks the end of Checkout. |
*Optional step based on setting Checkout >> Checkout Settings >> Allow Registered Users.
The other way to configure checkout on a MonsterCommerce Storefront is through a 2-Step Checkout Process. For a storefront to use the 2-Step Checkout Process, the setting Checkout >> Checkout Settings >> Four Step or Two Step Checkout must be set to Two. |
If the setting Allow Registered User is set to No, customers will automatically be directed to the second step of Checkout without seeing the Login page. |
The second step of Checkout, the Address and Options step, is where customers can fill in shipping address, billing address, as well as any Customer Account information (username and password). The second step will also allow customers to enter any gift certificates, discount codes, or answer any Checkout Questions. Once all required information is filled in the customer can proceed to the final step of Checkout. |
If Checkout >> Shipping >> Shipping Manager >> Allow Billing & Shipping Address to be Different is set to Yes, the customer will be presented with the option to set their Billing Address to be the Same as Shipping Address. If this setting is set to No then the customers will not see the Billing Address Fields on 2-Step Checkout. |
The third step of Checkout, the Shipping and Payment step, allows customers to select a shipping option, view their addresses, order totals and fill in payment information. Once a customer has selected a shipping option, the customer can recalculate their order total by pressing the Recalculate Total button on the bottom of the page. Once the customer fills in all required information and clicks the Place Your Order Button, their order information will be processed, stored, and the Customer is redirected to the Confirmation page of Checkout. |

The Confirmation page of Checkout displays all of the order information and provides the customer with the options to print out an invoice, or continue shopping. The Confirmation page also displays any Order Confirmation Messages that are set up in the storefront Payment Methods. The Confirmation page marks the end of Checkout. |
