Product Editor - Variants Tab

When a Product has the option “Use Advanced Variants” enabled, certain fields and options within the Simple Variant section will be disabled.

This is to prevent changes to the Simple Variant values that will negatively impact existing Advanced Variant information.

This QuickGuide explains what options are disabled, how to modify existing Advanced Variant information, and what the impact of those changes will be.

Simple Variants Section - What Information Can I Change?

With the “Use Advanced Variants” option enabled you can still make some changes to your Variant information within Simple Variant Section. You can:

  • Change the Sort Order of a Variant Group
  • Change the Description of a Variant Option
  • Change the Sort Order of a Variant Option

What if I Need to Make Other Changes?

You can still modify the variant options for this product using the following steps:

  1. From the Simple Variants section of the Variants tab, click on the button “Advanced Variants”
  2. Un-check the “Use Advanced Variants” checkbox within the Advanced Variants section
  3. Click the button “Back to Simple Product Variants” to return to the Simple Variants section
  4. Within the Simple Variants section make your changes, such as adding a new Variant Name to an existing Variant Group
  5. Once you have made your changes to the variant options click the button “Advanced Variants” to generate the new Advanced Variant options based on your changes
  6. Within the Advanced Variant section, check the “Use Advanced Variants” box
  7. Enter the product information for each Advanced Variant option and save

Will the Existing Advanced Variant Information be Deleted?

If you rename an existing Variant Option, add a new Variant Option to an existing Variant Group, or change the Sort Orders of existing Variant Groups or Options, any existing Advanced Variant information will be retained. Any new Variant Options will simply be added to the existing Advanced Variant options list.

However the following actions will cause the existing Advanced Variant data to be deleted so new Advanced Variant combinations can be created for the Product:

  • Add a new variant group
  • Delete an existing variant group
  • Delete all of the options within one variant group
  • Add to a variant group that does not contain any variant options

Also, if you change the Group associated with an existing Variant Option the data will be deleted if this change causes any of the conditions listed above.
