Summary

The PayPal Website Payments Pro is a solution that includes two payment methods: PayPal Express Checkout and PayPal Direct Payments. This QuickGuide will explain how to apply for this solution and walk you through the steps of signing up on PayPal's website.

Applying to PayPal Website Payments Pro

  1. Log into your PayPal account
  2. Cut and paste this URL into your browser: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_smb_signup_entry&featureID=1
  3. Fill out your information. You will be required to have a social security number for this application.
  4. Submit your application. Approval will take between 24-48 hours to approve. You will get an approval email or you can sign into your PayPal account and follow the instructions in the Getting Started section on the upper left hand column of your account overview page.
  5. You should also make sure that you have accepted your billing agreement. Check the Getting Started section on the upper left hand column of your account overview page.

Sign up for PayPal Express Checkout

In order to sign up for PayPal Express Checkout you must have a Premier or Business PayPal account.

  1. Log into your PayPal account
  2. Click My Account Tab
  3. Click on the Profile Tab (on the right)
  4. Under the Account Information column, you should see the API Access link, click on that link (if you do not see it then your account is not Premier or Business)
  5. In the API Access page, click on the first link, “Grant API Access Authorization”
  6. Click on the link below, "Custom API Authorization"
  7. Parter API username needs to be “billing_api1.monstercommerce.com”
  8. Check on the following checkboxes
    1. SetExpressCheckout
    2. GetExpressCheckoutDetails
    3. DoExpressCheckoutPayment
  9. Click "Submit"

Sign up for PayPal Direct Payment

In order to sign up for PayPal Direct Payment you must have a PayPal Business account and you must agree to the Billing Agreement that can be accessed through the Virtual Terminal in PayPal.

Note: The following steps assume that the PayPal account has already been set up for PayPal Express Checkout by following the steps in the section above.

  1. Log into your PayPal account
  2. Click on the Profile section under the My Account Tab
  3. Under the Account Information column, you should see the API Access link, click on that link (if you do not see it then your account is not Premier or Business)
  4. In the API Access page, click on the first link, “API Access Authorization”
  5. Make sure API Account Name “billing_api1.monstercommerce.com” is selected
  6. Click the Edit button
  7. Select the DoDirectPayment checkbox in addition to SetExpressCheckout, GetExpressCheckoutDetails, DoExpressCheckoutPayment
  8. Click Save

Note: PayPal Express Checkout must be enabled in order for PayPal Direct Payment to be enabled.
